Harmony’s potential for land-ice observations

February 14 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Professor Andreas Kääb, from the University of Oslo, and one of Harmony’s MAG members, will give a science colloquium on what Harmony is expected to provide to the land-ice science community.

Abstract:

Land ice is one of the main targets for the Harmony mission. We give an overview over the science associated with land ice that becomes possible through Harmony and its scientific and applied significance. We cover among other topics multi-year glacier elevation changes, sub-seasonal glacier elevation changes and simultaneously measured lateral ice velocities, three-dimensional velocities, permafrost ground motion and elevation change, and glacier- and permafrost-related hazards. The focus of the presentation is not on technical details and algorithms but rather on applications of Harmony that will be able to support land-ice science and demonstrate related practical applications.
